How do I determine the length of an already-owned cage?

I own a cage from MM but I’m not entirely sure how long it was when they made it. I think it’s about 2 inches, but since I want to buy another one and have it cut down, I need to figure out the exact size of this current piece.

Could anyone tell me what method is used for measuring cage length? Is it measured along the top edge, the bottom edge, or diagonally from corner to corner?
