For daily cleaning of the CD without taking it out, we’ve discovered an excellent swab. It was purchased from With part number 71-4542, this is a 6-inch foam-tipped swab that reaches all the nooks inside the cage. It doesn’t fall apart and can be washed for reuse. They come in packs of 50 or more, and we have nothing but praise for them. Dealing with odor was one of my biggest headaches, but this product fixed it without needing removal.
Back when I had the CB3000, q-tips were a pain because tiny bits of cotton would detach and get lodged inside. These seem like they'd be much better. Plus, the plastic handle is handy for "manipulating" items in the cage. I currently use wooden craft sticks from Michaels which work fine, but I'm always worried about splinters. Those really hurt and are tough to remove. -A
