How many of you began this path by crafting your own custom device? We have some engineers on the Forum, and KeyheldHubby definitely built one. Yes indeed, though my creation wasn't as polished as Locked4her55's. The base ring was crafted from a polypropylene cutting board found at the local grocery store (about 3/8" thick and very easy to cut and shape). I sliced two half-rings and added a half-lap joint to each end. One end took the hinge pin, while the other held the steel lock pin. All the remaining parts came from Home Depot (I wonder if they even SUSPECT that so much of their plumbing department revenue comes from fetishists like us??). While I experimented with various methods for joining the PVC pipe components—the black areas in the image actually show where I tried heat-joining them with a soldering iron—I ultimately found that a carefully machined fit combined with PVC pipe joint cement (using both purple primer and clear cement) worked best. The guide pins and spacers are just nylon screws and nuts. I experimented with different numbers of nuts until I achieved the spacing I wanted, then trimmed off the excess screw length. The steel pin through which the lock passes is a 5/16" steel pin that already had several holes in it. Once I settled on the desired spacing, I noted which hole to use for the lock and cut "shoulders" from each side of the pin. So while it remained a 5/16" pin overall, the section where the lock passes through was only about 1/8" thick. I used a Dremel tool with various attachments to drill holes in the tube. The key for me was patience and having a clear picture in my head of what I wanted the final product to look like. For me, the most enjoyable part was the "test fitting" process over several months.
