Bruising in chastity wear

The cock ring on my chastity cage measures 1.75 inches. I believe this fits me well since I’ve previously slipped out of a 2-inch ring (without any cage). While wearing the chastity device, it feels fine until an erection begins.

Recently, I spotted some minor bruising on my scrotum right where the cock ring sits. Is that normal? Should I switch to a larger 2-inch cock ring?
