Why are so many chastity devices designed with split rings?

With two chastity devices featuring hinged rings, two with solid rings, and the CB6000-style ring design, I’ve been wondering why anyone bothers with hinged options. A solid ring is straightforward to slide on and off. For years, I assumed a solid ring would be troublesome for many people, but when I tried one myself, I really liked it. The hinge area of hinged rings chafes me badly; even adding rubber tubing over the hinge doesn’t fully help because the two ends of that tubing then rub against each other and irritate my skin. I spent considerable time wrapping rubber tubing around the entire circumference of a hinged ring to mitigate this, which did work but made the ring too small for my build.

What changed my mind toward solid-ring devices like the Holy Trainer was noticing how my testicles would slip through the narrow 3/8” slot in my CB. If they can fit there, why not an 1.75” opening? It turned out to be no issue at all, and now I’m convinced about solid rings. I suspect hinged rings cost more to manufacture.

Does anyone know why we don’t see solid rings on every device design so that the surface against the testicles remains perfectly smooth?

Sizing issues and the perception that a hinged ring is easier to fit (especially for the Domme). It might be more about how we perceive it than actual reality, since we’ve all discovered this, but that’s my take. d

I’m not sure. It seems more complicated and a worse design overall. For what it’s worth, the official site doesn’t offer hinged rings for their CB6000s anymore; they’ve abandoned that style. I’m curious if the "new" CB3K might work for me instead. It is slightly wider at 1.45", but still a bit long on length. It’s a shame they don’t produce a CB3Ks variant.
