Moving the metal base ring closer to the body

Has anyone tried moving the base ring on a metal device closer to the body to help restrict erections? I’ve experimented with some rope, but it was uncomfortable up my butt crack. Perhaps I’ll switch to softer fabric or ribbon, or maybe use a strap. A jock strap produces a comparable result, yet I’m seeking an option that lets the boys breathe while keeping the pressure in place.
