Integrated Locking Assembly

I’m using an SS cage that has a built-in lock, and there’s some space between the barrels on the base plate and where the lock goes through. The problem I’m running into is that even when my grooming down there is pretty tight, those shorter hairs occasionally get snagged in between the barrels. Has anyone else dealt with this? Besides shaving it all off completely, what have you done to fix it?
