Issues With My Lady's Care

Here is an update from my journey as of Saturday. Kitten underwent a total knee replacement on Tuesday. The hospital therapist recommended she enter their in-house rehabilitation program before returning home. She was transferred to the rehab center Thursday night and will likely stay there for at least 3 weeks. Naturally, many things are going wrong with the facility. She is in pain, and every minor issue seems magnified, but what I have observed so far suggests most of her complaints about the place hold water. If conditions don’t improve over the weekend, she plans to speak with the director on Monday. Should they fail to resolve matters between us, we will transfer her elsewhere. It often feels like things are better whenever we or Kitten talk to a nurse, only to revert to normal within a few hours. The main issues involve her medications—particularly the painkillers being mishandled—and her therapy sessions being conducted by a regular nurse yesterday rather than a dedicated therapist coming in for the weekend. At this point, giving the director time to sort things out is no longer an option. After speaking with Kitten last night, I contacted another facility she stayed at a few years ago. The nurse on the line mentioned they have admissions staff available during weekends and would email my details over. They should begin processing her transfer today, so hopefully, she leaves this place either later today or tomorrow. I’ve put all my planned tasks for today on hold to be ready in case we need to move her belongings immediately. If she isn’t moved today, expect me sitting out on the front porch where Kitten is waiting for the director to arrive and address things. Trust me when I say she will not enjoy that discussion much. I also plan to call her surgeon regarding the denial of the pain medications he prescribed.

If you have any doubts about the quality of care at this facility, remove her right away. Ignore every excuse and don't bother trying to collaborate with them. If they lack the knowledge or concern necessary to get it right initially, they won't manage to correct their mistakes later.
