I believe there is plenty to discover through trial and error over the long haul, which I haven’t seen highlighted in many guides. Certainly, getting the length, ring size, and gap right matters. But what about these points: 1 The bars ought to run along the length; they shouldn’t be rings; this stops skin from catching or pinching as things expand/contract 2 A small opening at the end prevents painful pushing through when expanded 3 Vertical openness at the end helps with angles - otherwise urination can get messy (getting #4 right might fix this) 4 Headlock feature - something to keep the head stationary all the time, which aids in bathroom use 5 Furniture-lock mechanism for zero movement/noise - padlocks tend to rattle 6 If hinged, a rubber sleeve is essential - prevents pinching at the joint (do we need backup sleeves for cleaning/replacing?) 7 More than one POC* from cage to ring (point of connection) so it doesn’t torque/twist 8 Should be as open as possible for easy cleaning - CB6K/plastic isn’t ideal 9 Metal is better for less chafing and needing less lube, but plastic’s lightness is good for exercise - choose based on your lifestyle 10 If the cage width is just snug enough, tension goes outward rather than longitudinally, which is far less painful when expanding - it won’t pull the bar out or bite into sensitive areas
