We’re running on phpBB right now, which is currently in “maintenance mode”. It’s working about as well as it can at this stage. Occasionally a plugin will fail. The mobile experience isn’t always smooth.
We have the option of moving everything over to Discourse and self-hosting it. Discourse offers quite a different layout and user experience compared to phpBB. While it is designed with mobile in mind, both users and admins will face a learning curve figuring out how things work there.
Here’s an example of what a typical Discourse forum looks like:
If moving over to a new system will fix those "bad gateway" and "gateway timeout" errors, then I think yes. However, my gut feeling is that this problem might not be tied closely to which specific software we're using. Does anyone have a more expert opinion than just my intuition?
