“I recall those days when I was young and just starting out in dating… Back then, the sensation of talking to a woman in more than a friendly way felt like a small child seeing rain or snow for the first time… The freshness, that early thrill, discovering emotions I didn’t know were inside me… …along with heartbreak from a heart that hadn’t learned how to protect itself and an endless sensitivity that just took things at face value… Fast forward to now, and I can confidently say I’ve figured out how to deal with rejection, letdowns, and pretty much any nonsense a woman can throw my way in the straight dating scene… Because I have experience here, I’ve picked up lessons, matured…and yes, I’ve gotten a bit cynical. However, this isn’t true for D/s dynamics. Somehow, connecting with women through that lens brings back a psychological freshness, transporting me back to my younger self who was so easily hurt. I rarely plan face-to-face meetings with Dominant Women, mostly because I’m living abroad and have language and cultural hurdles to clear. But luckily, I connected with an English-speaking Dominant Woman who described herself as a Pro-Domme (though they’re usually not my type—I’ll save that for another post). She had studied in the US at a prestigious university, and we seemed to click easily. Since she lived nearby, within just a couple of hours of meeting online, we went out for drinks. The adrenaline was pumping through me. I started feeling like I did on my first dates…what should I say? What should I do? I felt confused because my usual confidence wasn’t there. Things were a bit wobbly at the start, but eventually, our dynamic settled… After a few good glasses of wine, she mentioned that she doesn’t check the website often where we met; when she does, it’s usually to leave it open in the evenings to attract potential clients. We had actually met on that site earlier that evening. I put two and two together… The fear crept up, and those familiar feelings of vulnerability surfaced. So I asked what seemed like the most natural question: **“Do you see me just as a potential client?” ** BAM! She reacted strongly. Anger flared. She got up to leave. I tried to manage the situation and smooth things over. Nothing I said helped, which made me feel even more overwhelmed. I stood outside in the cold trying to explain that my question came from insecurity and fear, not judgment—as if implying she only cared about another paying client… She left me with the bill (which I was going to pay anyway…), but instead of walking away happy after meeting someone nice, I carried those old familiar feelings back home… Feeling foolish for speaking up when it felt right in the moment… Feeling like my vulnerability wasn’t appreciated, or maybe not even noticed.. The stomach-dropping disappointment of feeling deeply misunderstood… Feeling like a kid again…
