“Labor of love” is a phrase we all know well. But I want to talk about the “labor of dominance.” First, though, let me lay out my disclaimer… **Disclaimer ** The thoughts below are mine alone; they don’t claim to define reality or represent a universal view. They stem from my own experiences and personal reflections.*:) With that said… I constantly hear comments like: “Being a dominant takes so much energy.” “Dominating consumes so much of your time.” *“What do I get in return for dominating you?” To the Dominant Woman: I understand, and I agree. But setting aside the power imbalance and inequality inherent in D/s… isn’t it equally true for a submissive? Let me clarify… Is it not also true for a ‘true submissive’ (ignoring for a moment that there are some poor-quality Dominants around)? Someone whose primary drive is to please their Dominant? Who desires submission just as much as the Dominant desires dominance? Who balances this with a busy academic or professional life? Ultimately, a Dominant’s need to dominate mirrors a submissive’s need to submit… Or does it? Here’s a subtle question that might hit me right where it hurts later: Whose time counts for more among these:

  1. A Dominant Woman
  2. A Dominant Man
  3. A submissive woman
  4. A submissive man Forgive the simplification of gender here, but… It seems there’s an assumption that a Dominant Woman works twice as hard and goes to great lengths to maintain her dominance, whereas it comes effortlessly for a submissive male. Does this hold true for a Dominant Man versus a submissive woman? After all, I don’t see many male Fin-Doms compared to the multitude of female Fin-Dommes. Have I lost my mind? Are these observations and questions controversial? Fingers crossed :+1::pray:
