A man needs time and maturity to truly admit he requires a safe harbor where he can be nurtured and held by a woman. It takes courage for him to tell his partner that while sex is important, what matters more are security, love, and care. A woman also needs to rise above her own conditioning and welcome a man who is showing vulnerability in new ways. She must possess enough self-love and confidence to accept this role as his safe harbor. Furthermore, she needs the strength to guard herself when his shame over being vulnerable shifts into anxiety, anger, or depression. It isn’t simple for men and women to take these risks, but the reward is a lifetime of growing love and closeness.
