I just went through @L-u-c-y ‘s post concerning derogatory comments made about women when they are in a group. As I scrolled past the replies, my sense of guilt grew stronger. Admittedly, I don’t speak that way about women myself; if friends do it, I usually stay silent rather than nodding along or agreeing… yet I also rarely confront them on their words. This type of chatter is especially common among people in my age bracket (mid-20s). I believe this behavior falls short. In fact, I feel many men fail to show proper respect toward women across a variety of situations (and by that, I mean at the fundamental human level, not just within femdom dynamics). So here is what I want to ask:

  • To the ladies: What male actions do you find truly unacceptable in public or among your friends?
  • To the guys: How are you working to improve things for women? Which “standard male habits” have you cut out? Here is how I am handling it personally: -I had a female friend, formerly an active feminist, suggest that I tip waitstaff more generously to help bridge the wage gap. It seemed like a smart move, so I’ve been doing it for several months now.
  • Since I live with roommates, I frequently do their cleaning without being asked. This likely stems partly from my interest in femdom.
  • When riding the subway, I keep myself contained and avoid spreading my legs. Wishing this leads to a lively and insightful conversation.
