I felt moved to put pen to paper here, as this topic struck me as a fitting choice. I’ve written before about devotion without expecting anything back in return, and some responses suggested that lacking reciprocity makes the dynamic one-sided and somewhat pointless. My argument is that reciprocity does happen, though perhaps not always in the ways we typically recognize it. A submissive who gives himself entirely certainly gets plenty of pleasure out of it. This joy is mostly emotional and mental—experiencing the sheer force of a Superior’s power as she takes what she wants without guilt. For those familiar with this lifestyle, that intensity is potent stuff. There’s great weight in waiting to see if your service or gesture will draw some kind of response from above. And when a reward does come back down to the sub/slave during one of these rare moments, the emotional surge can be overwhelming. I’m not claiming my view is the only valid path; there are many forms of D/s relationships out there, and most prove quite fulfilling. But please don’t assume for a second that what I describe is purely one-sided. I’ve read descriptions of subspace and euphoric submission—I might not fully grasp exactly what those states entail—but I certainly know the feeling of things going well when they do.
