I don’t have a specific question to ask; I’m just noting how my wife and I turned out to be perfect opposites, unlocking what each of us needed. Social rules draw lines around expectations that we often accept without realizing our true natures. I’ve always known who I am deep down, even if society says men shouldn’t feel or behave quite like this. She thought she was meant to be submissive simply because it’s the expected role for women, and she’d never seen another way. By letting go of hiding her real self, she opened me up too; in turn, when I stepped out from behind that mask, she stopped blindly following a path that wasn’t really hers. She isn’t truly submissive at heart. Part of what went wrong with past relationships was her attempt to play the part while simultaneously being demanding—it just happens naturally now. She enjoys getting her way and holding power; she likes being served, appreciated, adored. Expecting all these things from someone in a traditionally submissive spot felt unrealistic before, which left her wondering where it had gone sideways. My situation mirrored hers but differently: I knew what I was inside yet kept it hidden away. Others fell for the public face of my personality—strong, confident, masculine—but eventually grew tired because they didn’t see how closed-off or quietly depressed I became when holding back those feelings. Those bonds never lasted long-term since no one truly understood who stood before them. Only after ceasing concealment and showing myself openly could I fully accept love from another person. Doing so allowed her to discover a new way of living where she recognized exactly herself again. It felt right: being dominant suited her perfectly, replacing uncertainty with confidence as both feet firmly planted in one direction instead of straddling two worlds. We’re fortunate because we found each other simultaneously coming into alignment with our realities. I don’t trust fate or grand plans entirely, though many stars must align for two people needing the same core connection to meet up together. I might buy her flowers tomorrow just because.
That's very sweet.
