“Is FLR a form of reverse patriarchy? I came across an older discussion regarding the ‘1950 good housewife’ manual. The commenters seemed quite offended by the role designated to women in that era. Yet, isn’t FLR essentially the same framework with genders flipped? In reality, FLR goes further than what those 1950s manuals suggested for women. Housewives back then didn’t typically wear chastity belts or kiss their husbands’ feet or obey commands at a finger snap.

If men can be content within an FLR dynamic, why is it assumed that a traditional housewife must necessarily be subjugated by her husband rather than simply happy in her position?”

"Patriarchy refers to the broader societal structure, not just individual relationship dynamics. The main objection people have is to the expectation that women must fill a specific role. There’s no issue with them choosing that path as long as it is their own choice. I don’t view my FLR as reversing societal expectations; rather, men taking on these roles has become more common and mainstream. One of my close friends is a stay-at-home dad while I am a successful entrepreneur. Naturally, I can't speak to what happens behind closed doors in his home, but I doubt their relationship qualifies as an FLR or that male chastity plays a part there."
