Mature Metal discussion

hey everyone, I’m sizing up for a Jailbird and could use some guidance, particularly regarding the base ring diameter and cage size. right now I have a spiral cage unit from a UK-based brand. the inside measurements (in mm) are: base ring 45mm cage 31mm it’s been giving me swelling after wearing it for too long, so I’m opting for something custom made. i’ve picked up some sample rings to get a good sense of what dimensions will work. those come in sizes: 31, 34, 40, 45 & 50mm i’ve found the 50mm base ring quite comfortable; there’s enough space for my finger to reach the first knuckle easily. though it feels like it might be about 2mm too wide. the cages measuring over the shaft (31 and 34) are where I’m having trouble deciding. the 31 fits well behind the glans without shifting, leaving a slight mark when removed; the 34 tends to slide up and down more and doesn’t leave an indent. attached photos show (from top to bottom): 50/34/31 rings. [[Image: 06000AC3-9ADF-4B22-9CCD-AB42DBD80355.jpeg]]the referenced community page) i definitely want to get the cage order right from the start. given that, what do you think about: base ring size of 47.5mm / 1&7/8” cage diameter as either 35mm / 1&3/8” OR 32mm / 1&1/4”? i’m still figuring out the cage length. my measurements seem to fluctuate between 2” and 3.5” depending on when I measure. i’m also unsure about the gap size; i was leaning towards 3/8”, but maybe starting with 1/2” is smarter? my current setup has been burning my scrotum overnight, and now that I write it down, i can’t recall what the exact gap measurement is. does a larger gap work better? thanks in advance for any help or tips, kind regards Rob.
