I took a flight out of Salt Lake City recently. Oddly, I wasn’t wearing my Birdlock at the time—usually it’s on me all the time. After emptying my pockets of metal, I approached the screening area. The agent quickly said: “Sorry sir, you need to take everything out. This device picks up even paper and plastic.” So I took out some papers and plastics that were left in there and continued without issue. But if I had been wearing my silicone Birdlock (with a plastic seal instead of its usual metal lock), I doubt it would have escaped the classic embarrassing “airport strip search”. These upgraded scanning devices are being rolled out to airports across the country, including one near you.

So here’s the takeaway: The belief that a plastic or silicone chastity device with a plastic seal stays undetected by TSA metal detectors and allows for hassle-free air travel is no longer valid. finallyChaste

This is disappointing, though not entirely unexpected. It always seemed strange to me that those scanners only pick up metal, given there are plenty of non-metal items that could be dangerous. While I'm sad I can't travel chaste anymore, I do think the security worths the hassle. Thanks for letting us know—it might save me a few hours of embarrassment!:)
