Hi all! I picked up a “stallion guard” (note: that word is actually a link to an image, just for clarity) device some time ago and have been using it quite often. I washed it daily with a general-purpose cleaner, such as Lysol. Recently, though, I’ve noticed a red, itchy irritation on the upper outer part of my scrotum, right where one of the rings sits against my skin.
I realized that maybe I was overdoing the cleaning by using an all-purpose product. I thought leftover cleaner residue on the device’s metal might be triggering this reaction. So, I wiped down the metal parts with gentle soap and rinsed them off, sticking to mild soap ever since. I took a break from wearing it until my skin healed up, but when I put it back on, the redness came back within a few days.
I originally thought the device was made of stainless steel, but now I’m questioning that because I’ve read that true stainless doesn’t usually cause skin issues. Maybe it’s nickel instead? Also, looking closely at the two rings, only the sides facing away from my scrotum and penis remain shiny; the other sides look dull-grey with a grainy texture and are slightly rough.
Questions: Does anyone know how to check if my device is stainless steel or contains nickel? Is it safe to use steel wool to smooth out those rough spots on the rings? Would that hurt the metal, or could it help remove whatever residue might be making things worse?
