Getting the right size for a CB device of any type, even something as straightforward as a “trapped-ball” model, is often counter-intuitive. If you simply lay your shaft on a ruler to measure cage length and wrap string around the base of your scrotum for the ring measurement, I can guarantee that many—perhaps most—of you will end up with incorrect measurements. Sending those numbers off to a custom CB maker likely means finding out later that the base ring is too tight for sleeping and the cage ends up longer or larger than desired.

I have a method for taking these measurements that should deliver perfect results for your base ring, cage length, and internal diameter on the first attempt with your custom-fit builder. The only tricky part to measure is the “gap” between the cage and the base ring, but fortunately, most custom makers can adjust this easily and cheaply if needed.

First, let’s look at some common sizing misconceptions:

Misconception 1: If your device slides down your shaft/scrotum too far, your base ring is too big. Misconception 2: If you can “pull out” your shaft from the back of the device, your base ring is too large. Misconception 3: It’s normal to experience “night pain” while sleeping. Your CB waking you up is also typical. Just go pee and return to sleep. Applying lotion or oil around the base ring at night helps significantly. Developing some sores initially—or occasionally even after long-term chastity—is normal. Give your body a few weeks or months to adjust, and use ointment when sores appear; they heal quickly. Misconception 4: You need a cage with an inside diameter that grips the shaft quite tightly. It’s common to need lots of lube or “the stocking trick” to get your shaft fully into the cage. Misconception 5: Your cage must be long enough to provide some “room to grow.” Misconception 6: You can design a trapped-ball cage that is truly “inescapable” without locking a piercing to the end of the cage or using a deep (and potentially risky) urethral insertion pin.
