No experience. Is that a dealbreaker?

I'm 29 and I've known this side of myself for years, but I've never had a real dynamic, never been to an event, and everything I know comes from reading. Profiles I see mention experience like it's a job requirement, and I feel like I'm applying for positions I'm not qualified for. Should I wait until I somehow get experience before dating, or is honest inexperience workable? And where would I even get experience without dating in the first place? : Green but Serious
Green, you’ve spotted the paradox correctly: the only place to get relationship experience is a relationship, so treating experience as an entry requirement would empty the whole field in a generation. It doesn’t work that way, and your reading habit has already taught you more than you’re giving it credit for. Let’s sort out what experience actually buys, and what to do while you have none.
Here’s the honest hierarchy from the other side of the table. What a dominant woman screening partners wants is not a CV of previous dynamics. Past dynamics ended, note, which is why they’re past, and a man carrying six sets of someone else’s rules often needs more unlearning than a beginner needs teaching. What she wants is the cluster underneath: self-awareness, honesty, steadiness, and teachability, the capacity to hear, adjust, and stay consistent. Inexperienced submissive dating works precisely because those qualities are testable from week one and experience is a weak proxy for all of them. Some of the worst candidates in any inbox are veterans. Some of the best are blank slates who know themselves. The full shortlist she’s actually running is in what dominant women want in a partner, and years-served appears nowhere on it.
Now, how to present the blank slate, because there’s one honest way and two failing ways. The failing ways: pretending to experience, which collapses on the first detailed question and takes your credibility with it, and apologising for yourself, the “I know I’m probably not what you’re looking for” opener, which asks her to do your confidence for you. Nobody’s recruiting for that position.
The honest way is two sentences, delivered without flinching: “I’m new to living this, though I’ve done years of reading and thinking about it. I know what I want, I know my limits so far, and I’d rather learn properly with the right person than badly with the wrong one.” That’s it. Self-possessed, specific, zero grovel. Said like that, newness stops being a deficiency and becomes what it genuinely is to many women: a clean start, no bad habits, no ex-domme’s fingerprints on the furniture. Ask around and you’ll find dommes who actively prefer it.
On “training”, since the word will come up: in a dating context it doesn’t mean a formal program you should have graduated from, and be wary of anyone selling one. It means the ordinary way a real pair builds their specific dynamic: her preferences taught, your responses shaped, habits laid down one at a time. Every couple does this, including the experienced ones, because every dynamic is new even when neither person is. The month-one version, small agreements and small protocols kept consistently, is laid out in the first month of a femdom relationship, and a beginner who read it arrives better prepared than a veteran who never did.
Meanwhile, close the gap you can close without a partner. Events, munches, discussion nights, community spaces: attending as a polite, curious human gives you scene literacy, real faces, and the beginnings of a reputation, all experience of a kind, none requiring a relationship. It also fixes your framing problem, because you’ll discover the field is full of beginners and the job-requirement profiles are a minority with specific tastes, not the door policy.
So: don’t wait, don’t fake, don’t grovel. Lead with the reading, the self-knowledge, and the seriousness, which are real qualifications you already hold. Green but serious beats seasoned but hollow in every inbox that matters. Apply accordingly.
