I answer messages on Sunday afternoons and at no other time
- Hoping to find
- a man who can live inside a structure that mostly runs while we are apart
- Experience
- Eleven years leading, two long relationships, one bad burnout in between.
- Somewhere around
- Queens, New York
I answer messages on Sunday afternoons and at no other time. Not to be difficult and not as a test. It is the only way I have found to do this without it eating a working week, and every woman I know who leads has arrived at some version of the same rule.
Thirty eight, Queens, I run a small veterinary practice, eleven years of leading, two long relationships. During the week I am on my feet for ten hours and I have nothing left over for an inbox. Pretending otherwise is how I burned out on all of this three years ago and vanished for eighteen months.
So if you write on a Monday and hear nothing until the weekend, that is the system working correctly. What I have noticed is that the men who cannot tolerate the wait are almost exactly the men who would not tolerate anything else either, so I have stopped explaining it in advance and started letting it sort people for me.
What I want is ongoing and structured, with most of the structure living in the parts of the week we are apart. I like written check ins because I can read them between appointments. I like fixed duties because I do not have the energy to invent something new every seven days.
Not looking for a man who needs a reply within the hour to feel wanted. Not looking to be somebody's entire social life. Not looking for anyone who treats a boundary about time as a challenge, because I have very little slack and what I have is not available for that.
Answering a post like this one
Most people reading a post like this one are deciding whether to write to her, and then writing something forgettable. These three are about the message itself, and about knowing who is on the other end of it.
